Are flyers the new chewing gums? Should they be banned?
Written by Shirley Kettler
Have you ever noticed a junk load of flyers flooded in your mailbox? Well, i have. Sure, the advertisements inform me of the latest events, products and services. But do i REALLY need to be constantly reminded 24/7?
Flyers are not only cheap, but attractive and a popular source of advertisement. It is most commonly advertised by tutors, housing agents, rental landlords and delivery services. Most of these people flood our mailboxes with flyers and brochures.
Positively, if they are banned, there wouldn't be so much wastage of paper and a nuisance for residents to clear their mailbox on a regular basis. On the negatively side, advertisers will have to change their mode of advertisements which, in a form, may be more expensive and will overall lower their sales cost.
Perhaps instead of restricting to one of these options, community workers can place more focus on recycle bins to be placed beside the wastebin or mailboxes. This way, when residents check for their mails, they can easily clear the flyers which they have no interest in and not only will it save the environment, but advertisers can still advertise and have people to notice their hardwork of labour. It's a win-win situation.
