Is privacy still relevant given today's hyper-connected world of online social networking?
With new social-networking applications like Facebook and Twitter, some people question if privacy is still relevant. Facebook users all over the world post pictures, comments, videos about their lifes. To as lame as posting about what they had for lunch to posting about how much they love their lover. All these are considered as privacy. But with such applications around, is privacy relevant? I myself use Facebook but i still feel that privacy is really important. Privacy is something then u should cherish. You would be like an open book if you think privacy is stupid.
But come to think of it, it actually sounds pretty good. I mean, everyone would then be able to know how you feel. You would keep nothing to yourself. Then, your close friends would be able to console you if you are feeling down and they can share your joy when you are happy. But i still feel that some things are better to remain personal. Your love life is one such personal thing. Yeah, its kinda awesome if you see pictures of your friend kissing/hugging his or her beau. But it may also be a real turn off for certain people. A recent stompper posted that he was particularly disturbed when he saw a picture of a girl hugging her boyfriend in MacDonalds. They were merely hugging and he already posted it online to show his anger. If they kissed he would probably go to the police. So, my opinion is that YES privacy is still relevant even though i loveeee facebook !!!
