Our Unspoken Confessions
Is privacy still relevant given today's hyper-connected world of online social networking?
Written by Shirley Kettler
Given today's society, privacy can be obtained by simply changing the settings of a certain network. For instance, bloggers. Those who own an online shopping website may blacklist customers who do not make payment on time or simply refuse to pay up.
Another example would be social networking websites such as Facebook. Facebook profiles can only be viewed if an individual is shown in their list of friends. However, some people do not bother changing their profile settings to a private mode. This reveals information about a person be it their gender, education, and even whereabouts. These are the people who feel that privacy is no longer relevant.
So is privacy really important? This depends on the individual. It is up to them to decide whether or not they would like strangers to view their profiles. However, at the end of the day, one should always be careful and not leave the unknown with too much information or trouble may arise.
